Team News
Midfielder Adam Lovatt joined the club on Thursday from fellow Isthmian Premier Division side Hashtag United. Find out more about Jay Saunders’ new signing here.
From The Manager
Jay Saunders spoke ahead of the weekend’s fixture: “We’re 11 games in now and Tuesday night was our first defeat, it was a tough one to take but sometimes you learn more in a defeat. We worked hard on Thursday, we’ve bolstered the squad with Adam Lovatt coming in which we are really happy with and we’re looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.
“It will be a tough afternoon, I know people might look at the league table and see where they are but they’re a side full of quality, we know their management team well and I don’t expect anything other than a really tough test on Saturday.”
The Opposition
Having missed out on the Isthmian Premier Division title by a single goal in April, then losing in the play-off semi-final in extra time, Billericay have struggled to find the momentum so far this season to mount another push for promotion.
Manager Gary McCann departed after just six league games, with the club 12th in the Isthmian Premier Division. Billericay have taken just one league win since the change, although their only league defeat in that time was to leaders Brentwood Town. The Blues made it to the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round, falling narrowly to National League North side Spennymoor Town.
Danny Scopes’ side have eight league fixtures to come this month, so a return to winning ways would be vital to set them up for a busy period that could make or break their season.
Recent Form
11/10 – Spennymoor Town (A) – Lost 1-0 (FA Cup)
14/10 – Cheshunt (H) – Drew 1-1
18/10 – Chichester City (A) – Drew 2-2
21/10 – Waltham Abbey (H) – Won 3-0 (Essex Senior Cup)
25/10 – Bishop’s Stortford (H) – Lost 5-0 (FA Trophy)
28/10 – Potters Bar Town (H) – Won 3-1
The Manager
Scopes took over at New Lodge in early September following the departure of Gary McCann. Scopes previously managed Concord Rangers before taking Aveley from the Isthmian North to the National League South with back-to-back promotions, leaving the club at the end of last season as they were relegated back to the Isthmian League.
One To Watch
Billericay’s squad is packed with attacking talent, even after the departures of Joe Taylor and Femi Akinwande, but defender Ryan Scott provides a serious goal threat from the centre of defence, with four to his name already this season.
Having already won promotion with Hornchurch and Aveley (where he played under Scopes), Scott comes with all the experience necessary for Billericay to mount a push towards the top end of the Isthmian Premier Division.
Recent Meetings
Billericay took six points from Invicta last season with wins home and away but Invicta still boast a greater head-to-head record since The Blues returned to the Isthmian Premier Division in 2022 with three wins to two.
