Tuesday 16th November Round-up

See the source image

There were just four Premier Division games this week, all were played on Tuesday, but first an update on the Buildbase F.A. Trophy.

Following a meeting at the F.A. on Monday, Potters Bar Town have been awarded victory in their tie against Bedford Town on Saturday. The game was abandoned with three of the five minutes of time added on still to be played, with ‘The Scholars’ winning 1-0 and the F.A. have ruled that the result should stand. The full statement from the F.A. says: The Buildbase F.A. Trophy – First Round Proper Bedford Town v Potters Bar Town. “Following the abandonment of the above match, a Sub-Committee of The F.A. National Game Competitions Committee was held on Monday 15 November, to consider the matter on behalf of the National Game Board, in accordance with Rule 11(b), of the Rules of The F.A. Challenge Trophy Competition. “When any match has been abandoned after it has commenced but before it has been completed, the National Game Board shall deal with the matter as it sees fit in its absolute discretion. “Having given due consideration to all of the relevant facts from the evidence provided, the Members unanimously concluded that the score at the time of the abandonment in the 93rd minute should stand as the result of the match. “Therefore, as the score was 0-1 to Potters Bar Town at the time of the abandonment, the Members ordered that the tie be awarded to Potters Bar Town, who will play away against Braintree Town in the Second Round Proper on Saturday 27th November 2021. “The Members made no further orders, and the prize fund shall be paid by The FA to the winner and loser in accordance with the Rules of The FA Challenge Trophy Competition.”

Back to the on-field action, and Worthing continued their relentless march at the top of the Division, stretching their lead to eight points, with a good 3-1 win at Hornchurch. Charlie Stimson but the home side ahead after twenty-five minutes, but six minutes later, Aarran Racine levelled matters for ‘The Mackerel Men’, who took the points with second half goals from Ollie Pearce, with a fifty-ninth minute penalty, and Joel Colbran eleven minutes from time.

2nd placed Enfield Town went down 2-1 at the fast-improving Bishop’s Stortford who moved up to 5th following their victory. All the goals came in the last ten minutes, firstly Jake Cass put the home side ahead with an eighty-third minute penalty, but this was cancelled out two minutes from time by Nathan Smith, only for Johnville Renee to clinch victory for ‘The Bishops’ in the sixth minute of time added on at the end of the game.

Folkestone Invicta’s 4-1 win at Wingate & Finchley saw us move up to 3rd, level on points with ‘The Towners’. With goals in the sixteenth, fortieth and sixtieth minutes, Kieron McCann scored his first hat-trick in senior football. Scott Heard added a fourth with five minutes to go after Theo Ofori had pulled a goal back in the seventy-second minute, although ‘The Blues’ had faced an uphill struggle from just before half time when Jesse Armoo received his second yellow card.

Brightlingsea Regent recently appointed Brett Munyard as First Team Manager along with his Assistant Mark Healy and coach Ricky Stubbs from White Ensign. They had been at the Essex Senior club for six seasons helping them rise from Step Seven to step Five, which is the highest level the club has ever played at. It looked like they were going to get off to a winning start at home against Bowers & Pitsea as goals from Valter Cachicote da Rocha in the sixteenth minute and Dom Locke in the fifty-fourth put them 2-0 into the lead, but in a sensational end to the game, Michael Ademiluyi in the eighty-eighth and ninetieth minutes, and Bradley Sach, also in the ninetieth minute, snatched the points for the away side.
