Pitching In Isthmian League – August Awards

The League would like to express their thanks to all those that have sponsored this season’s awards.

The winners of the first set of awards for many a month have been announced, and the good news is that Folkestone Invicta feature, but more of that later.

Manager of the Month sponsored by Vita Risk Solutions Insurance Specialists

Vita Risk Solutions came on board as the League’s new sponsors of the ‘Manager of the Month’ Awards at the start of last season, which ended almost as soon as it started. The company have over fifteen years’ experience in insurance, and their the aim is to provide a comprehensive service to look after all your insurance needs.

Premier Division: Having won all four League games in August, there can be little argument that the prize deservedly goes to Hayden Bird of Kingstonian. Not only did they beat Haringey Borough, Bishop’s Stortford, Hornchurch, and Corinthian-Casuals in the League they also scored eight goals against Oxhey Jets in last Wednesday’s F.A. Cup replay, although that was in September and cup games aren’t taken into consideration, but worth a mention!

North Division: At the time of the award, Grays Athletic were another side with a 100% record at the top of their Division with wins over Bury Town, Basildon United and Aveley, so the award went to Jim Cooper. Although surprisingly since picking up the award, the long serving Manager has retired from the game.

South Central Division: During the summer re-shuffle, Basingstoke Town were moved across from the Pitching In Southern League, but it hasn’t fazed them as they’ve won all three League games they’ve played so far, against Binfield, Hanwell Town and Thatcham Town as well as well has having two victories in the preliminary stages of the Emirates F.A. Cup. So, the award goes to their boss Daniel Brownlie, who has made a great start to life in the Pitching In Isthmian League.

South East Division: Manager Shaun Saunders has masterminded three wins from three against local rivals Burgess Hill Town and East Grinstead Town, whilst Sevenoaks Town were their other victims, so he picks up the August award.

Golden Gloves sponsored by AB1

AB Goalkeeping are continuing their sponsorship of the ‘Golden Gloves’ Awards for this season. Premier League winner and Bosnian international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is best known for his work between the posts, mainly for Stoke City, Chelsea, and AFC Bournemouth, but he also has his own company, AB1 Goalkeeping, who provide products for goalkeepers at all levels.

Premier Division: Folkestone Invicta delivered three clean sheets from their four Premier Division games in August, and conceded only one goal in the other, so the award goes to our very own Tim Roberts.

North Division: As well as winning the ‘Manager of the Month’ Award for August, Grays Athletic also conceded just two goals in August, the least number of goals, and so the prize goes to ‘Athletic’ keeper Danny Sambridge.

South Central Division: Another side to concede just two goals were Uxbridge which means the Award goes to their goalkeeper Tyler Tobin.

South East Division: It’s back to Haywards Heath Town as their keeper Billy Collings also only let in two goals in August to pick up the Award.

Performance of the Month sponsored by Pitching In

Pitching In is a Grassroots Sports Investment Programme launched by GVC, the multi-national sports-betting and gaming group which owns Ladbrokes and Coral. The partnership covers all three leagues that make up Steps 3 & 4 of the National Leagues System. Pitching In has been set up with the objective of supporting, protecting and encouraging grassroots sports in the UK through a range of initiatives. In addition to financial support, a key focus of the partnership will be to facilitate and encourage members of the community to become volunteers and do some pitching in of their own. A Pitching In volunteering scheme will be established to link GVC’s Ladbrokes and Coral shop colleagues with their local clubs.

Premier Division: Title favourites Worthing entertained local rivals Bognor Regis Town on August Bank Holiday Monday and in front of an excellent attendance of 2,101, ‘The Rocks’ left the Crucial Environmental Stadium with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Ashton Leigh and Kayne Diedrick-Roberts to pick up the prize.

North Division: There were some fine performances from North Division sides, but the winners won the prize for a victory in the Emirates F.A. Cup. Maldon & Tiptree have had an excellent recent record in the competition, with Morecambe and Newport County in the First and Second Rounds respectively being the last two to beat them. So, Aveley could have been a bit daunted visiting the Maldon Stadium, however that didn’t deter them and ‘The Millers’ progressed to the next round with Alex Akrofi scoring the only goal of the game.

South Central Division: Another side to win the award based on their performance on the August Bank Holiday Monday is our next Emirates F.A. Cup opponents Ashford Town, who made the short trip to face rivals Staines Town, and registered an excellent 5-0 victory. ‘The Tangerines’ goals came from Jack French, Matt Bunyan, Perry Coles and George Spiers plus an own goal making the nap hand which probably just about summed up ‘The Swans’ afternoon!

South East Division: On Saturday 28th August, Herne Bay hosted Three Bridges still looking for their first League victory of the season, and they did so in some style, registering a 6-0 victory with goals from Zak Ansah, who scored two, JJ Naiwo, Dan Johnson, and former Invicta strikers Chin McKenzie and Dean Grant.
