EASTBOURNE BOROUGH NEXT TO VISIT

Following on from last Saturday’s 3-1 victory against Vanarama National League (South) Welling United, tomorrow we welcome Eastbourne Borough, from the same Division, to the BuildKent Stadium.

Last season, when the Vanarama National League ended in such controversial circumstances with the National Division playing on but the North and South being terminated, our opponents were putting in a decent promotion challenge with thirty-three points from nineteen games which saw them lying in 3rd position, six points behind League leaders Dorking Wanderers and for the forthcoming season they will be looking to mount a challenge again. They also reached the First Round Proper of the Emirates F.A. Cup, before losing 3-0 at home against then League One and now Championship Blackpool, in front of the BT Sport cameras.

‘The Borough’ are managed by Danny Bloor who was appointed in November 2019 when he took over from Lee Bradbury to whom he had been assistant. We have met up with the highly regarded manager previously as he formerly managed Worthing. His assistant is Argentinian Sergio Torres, who is well known in the Sussex area for his spell at Crawley Town and he is also continuing to play for the Priory Lane club. There could have been an Invicta connection as when Bloor was first appointed, he made former Invicta goalkeeper Scott Chalmers-Stevens the club’s First Team coach, but he has since moved on to Ebbsfleet United.

On Tuesday they won their first pre-season game, beating Southern Combination League Premier Division side Bexhill United 3-2 at home having come back from being 2-0 down after twenty-five minutes. By half-time they were back level thanks to goals from Trialists E and D (here we go again!), and the winner came from Rollinson, two minutes into the second half.

I spoke to Neil, who said: ‘Once again we will be facing a good test when Danny Bloor brings to Eastbourne Borough team to Folkestone, I was very pleased to get the fixture. ‘He is a good friend and contact within the football world and has done an excellent job in his time with the club, last season they were in a promotion place when the season stopped and also had a great run on the F.A. Cup.’

Looking ahead to the squad for tomorrow, he added: ‘Our squad will be similar to last week, with Scott Heard, Kieron McCann and Ryan Johnson, who was the only one of the three who played last week, unavailable. ‘We will still have a good squad to pick from and I’m expecting another enjoyable game on our excellent pitch, hopefully you’ll come along and support us again.’
