Chatham Town are the visitors to the Alcaline Stadium for the Kent Senior Cup 1st Round tie.

Speaking following Saturday’s win at Lewes, joint Head Coach Roland Edge said:

“We want to see a good performance on Tuesday night to carry the momentum we have coming out of today’s win. We’ve obviously had a very close look at them this season having already played them in the league, I want to see us execute our game-plan better as I don’t think we really did that night.”

Kent Senior Cup

Following the rather farcical situation surrounding both the date and venue for the 2022 final, last season’s final was moved back to Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium on Wednesday 3rd May. At the time of writing I cannot confirm if this has remained the case for this season’s competition.

24 teams will compete in this season’s Kent Senior Cup with 16 teams kicking off the 1st Round. Teams from the National League South and above have been given a bye to the second round, so the 1st Round consists of 15 clubs from the Isthmian League as well as SCEFL Punjab United who qualify as holders of the Kent Senior Trophy.

Sittingbourne and Ashford United kicked off this year’s competition on Saturday 2nd September with Sittingbourne winning 2-1. Along with our tie, Sheppey United will host Beckenham Town on Tuesday night with all other 1st Round ties due to be played by the end of September.

The winner of our tie will host Tonbridge Angles in the 2nd round (the last 16).

Kent Senior Cup ties go straight to penalties if level after 90 minutes.

Previously

Tuesday night’s tie will be a clash between the last 2 beaten finalists, with Invicta having lost 6-2 to Dartford in 2022 (at Chatham’s Bauvill Stadium) while Chatham lost to Margate on penalties in last season’s final at Priestfield.

Invicta were knocked out at this stage last season, losing 3-1 to Cray Valley PM at Cheriton Road, wit Ira Jackson Jr scoring Invicta’s goal from a free kick.

You won’t need good long term memory to remember the last time we hosted Chatham Town, with the sides meeting in the league just 4 weeks ago. The Chats took the points that night with a winner deep into stoppage time following Ira Jackson’s 91st minute equaliser.

The Opposition

Having taken to life in the Isthmian Premier Division like a house on fire or a duck to water or some other cliche, Chatham will be looking to bounce back from successive 5-1 defeats. Having gone top of the league with an impressive 5-2 win away to Dulwich Hamlet on August Bank Holiday Monday, The Chats were then knocked out of the FA Cup by Ramsgate of the Isthmian South East before suffering against on Saturday at the hands of Cray Wanderers, who ended Chatham’s 100% start to the season to pick up their first points of the campaign having previously lost all 5. Football, eh?

Former Invicta forward Cinedu McKenzie departed the club over the weekend leaving Jack Evans as the only former Invicta man in their books but they have added Tommy Fagg to the squad on loan from Tonbridge Angels.

All our fixtures are pay on the gate with no tickets sold in advance. Both cash and card are accepted on our turnstiles. Please arrive as early as possible to avoid queues at the turnstiles.
