Folkestone Invicta managed to beat Maidstone United in the National U19 Youth Alliance yesterday and bring all three points home and continue a strong start to the season.
The game started pretty evenly with both sides trying to create chances and shots from distance reasonably dealt with by both goalkeepers.
Overall in the half Folkestone created the better of the opportunities without any real cutting edge.
The second half was completely different. Folkestone started brightly and, after a throw in by the left corner flag and some nice interplay from Teddy Weight and Taj Oliva, the ball found Harry Linford inside the box who shifted the ball before scoring into the bottom corner.
Folkestone were in control and not under any danger, until a mishap in midfield allowed Maidstone to win the ball and attack us on the break and ultimately scoring the equaliser.
Maidstone then raised their game as Folkestone dropped off and, after a series of corners, one was cleared before a good strike from the edge of the box put Maidstone ahead.
The pressure continued, another Maidstone corner found their striker in the six yard box, only for Harris Dove to make a fantastic save and keep the score manageable.
Changes were made to freshen things up after a number of players had played on Tuesday night. Harrison Miller and Kayden Walters both came on to make their NL debuts, both causing problems to the Maidstone defence.
Harrison Miller made an instant impact , Riley Kingsnorth picked up the ball in the midfield, before playing Miller down the right wing, beating the defender and putting a cross into the path of Harry Linford to score his second and equalise with minutes to go.
In stoppage time, Miller received the ball again, beating the defender before being brought down for a free kick. Harry Uttley delivered a great cross in for Louis Brooks-Read to attack and score the winner.
After a busy few days, a good positive performance and great character shown from the entire squad.
