Folkestone Invicta travel to South East London on Tuesday evening to take on VCD Athletic in the Kent Senior Cup 1st Round.

Invicta will be looking to win a Kent Senior Cup tie for the first time since the 2022 semi-final against Hythe Town, having exited in the first round in the past three seasons.

Ties are settled on the night, with a penalty shootout to decide the winner should the scores remain level after 90 minutes.

The winner of Tuesday’s tie will host Welling United in the second round, with the tie due to be played next month.

Kent Senior Cup

The Kent Senior Cup is contested by clubs at step four of the NLS and above, including sides from EFL clubs Gillingham, Bromley and Charlton.

The competition was founded in 1889 with Maidstone United the most successful club in its history, lifting the trophy on 19 occasions.

The previous Folkestone club won the competition on six occasions, the most recent being 1985. Invicta are yet to lift the trophy, having been beaten in six finals.

Invicta will be in our blue away kit on Tuesday evening, with our hosts in green and white.

From The Manager

First-team manager Jay Saunders spoke to Invicta TV following Saturday’s win at Burgess Hill Town:

“We’ll make big changes for Tuesday night, lads that haven’t played as much need minutes and we will bring in some players from the academy that have impressed so it will be good for us as there are lads that need those minutes.”

The Opposition

Based in Crayford, VCD Athletic won promotion back to the Isthmian League via the SCEFL Premier Division playoffs, two years after relegation. The Vickers currently sit 15th in the South East Division with six points from six games.
