Folkestone Invicta Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of 25-year-old defender Liam Smith from Sittingbourne.

Liam made his senior debut at Tonbridge Angels at the age of 16 and was part of the side that won promotion to the National League South in 2019.

After departing Tonbridge in 2020, Liam joined our neighbours Hythe Town, where he spent four years, three of which as captain – including the year he led The Cannons to the Isthmian South East play-off final.

Last summer Liam left Reachfields to join Sittingbourne. There, he helped The Brickies reach the FA Trophy quarter-finals, securing his second play-off final in three seasons.

On his latest addition, first-team manager Jay Saunders said: “Liam is someone I’ve known for a long time. He was at Tonbridge as a youngster with Parky [Tommy Parkinson], spent a few years as captain of Hythe Town and was a big part of Sittingbourne’s success last season.

“Liam’s a good player who can play in a few different positions and he will be a big asset for us as we look to be more solid defensively.”

“He’s also a good lad who will add a lot to our changing room.”

Welcome to Cheriton Road, Liam.
