Hayley Turrell and Chloe Lloyd continued their battle to be top goalscorer as Folkestone Invicta Women posted a record scoreline at Baypoint Seconds who were on the end of a ruthless display, with five players scoring their first goal for the club.
Invicta headed into the fixture top of the SECWFL Kent Division 2 East while our hosts sat bottom without a point, and with goal difference separating Mark Janser’s side from the chasing Sellindge his forwards took the chance.
With Lloyd and Turrell level on goals heading into the fixture, the two combined after 12 minutes as Turrell headed a ball in behind the Baypoint defence for Lloyd to lift over the Bayppint goalkeeper and inside the far post to open the scoring.
Lloyd and Turrell were both denied Invicta’s second by the Baypoint goalkeeper before Nyah Commons scored a sensational first goal for the club. Collecting a ball out wide from Maisie Edwards, Commons beat her defender before firing an effort high into the far top corner.
Invicta had a third just 21 seconds after the restart, captain Izzy Janser won the ball back just inside the Invicta half and drove up the left before finding Lloyd who rounded the keeper and squared the ball to Turrell to tap in her first of the afternoon.
Midfielder Grace Kirk-Smith was the next to open her Invicta Account in the 26th minute, a clearance bobbling into her path 25 yards from goal, her strike looping over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar.
Lloyd struck Invicta’s 5th just before the half hour mark, a clearance from Izzy Janser dropping in behind the Baypoint defence for her to run onto, taking two touches before firing beyond the goalkeeper for her second of the afternoon.
Now with a taste of goal, Commons fired her second and Invicta’s sixth on 33 minutes, Kirk-Smith finding her with a ball in behind the left back who Commons beat with a nutmeg by the corner flag before coming inside and firing home from a tight angle.
As Invicta pushed for more goals, Crystal Hoveman almost added her name to the list of first time scorers as she received a lay off from Turrell just outside the penalty area but her effort was tipped away by the goalkeeper as it headed towards the top corner. From the corner Katie Philpott saw an effort blocked before a second corner was cleared.
Invicta continued the pressure with crosses coming into the box from open play and corners. A corner from the right flew across the face of goal, just needing the slightest touch to turn it home, while Philpott headed wide from one from the left before firing wide from close range from another.
The first half scoring was finally competed in stoppage time as Rebekah Goodhand finished off a chance from close range after Hoveman had been unable to turn home a pass from Commons.
Invicta came out for the second half with a change in goal, Izzy Janser pulling on the gloves while Aaliyah Singh lined up in midfield.
Lloyd almost completed her hat-trick within a minute of the restart as she latched onto a ball in behind, rounding the goalkeeper but striking the outside of the post from a tight angle. Gianna Moscato forced a good save from a similar angle after cutting in from the left, Baypoint managing to clear a scramble for the loose ball.
Singh was showing plenty of ability with the ball at her feet, going on a mazy run before forcing a simple save from the goalkeeper in the 49th minute.
Lloyd went close to a hat-trick again in the 53rd minute with a cross from the right that was almost dropped over the line by the Baypoint goalkeeper.
In the 56th minute Invicta finally found a breakthrough with Goodhand grabbing her second. Having not quite got on the end of 2 previous balls from Singh, the third was perfect for Goodhand to control and fire across the keeper into the far corner.
Invicta were denied a 9th just moments later during a comical goalmouth scramble, a cross from Goodhand spilled before Turrell saw an effort blocked, Lloyd denied twice on the line then Turrell’s final effort deflected onto the head of a defender and over the crossbar. Philpott headed just wide from the corner. A few minutes later Philpott hooked another corner high into the air while it appeared her arm was being pulled, Lloyd turned the effort goal-bound but saw it saved.
Gianna Moscato added Invicta’s 9th with a well deserved goal on the hour mark, the winger cutting inside from the left and firing an effort into the far bottom corner, her first senior Invicta goal.
Singh continued to show her ability without the gloves on as she added the 10th a minute later, a lovely touch to take her past a 1st defender before brute force took her through a second, firing a low effort that the Baypoint keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep out. The goal prompted a change, Singh taking back the gloves from Janser who slotted back into the defence.
Turrell grabbed her second shortly after, Goodhand with good work on the right before delivering a cross that she volleyed into the bottom corner. Another chance fell Terrell’s way within seconds of the restart, again Goodhand finding her with a ball in behind but she poked the effort wide. She wouldn’t have to wait long to complete her hat-trick, however, Goodhand playing her in for another chance after a wayward clearance from the goalkeeper, this time Turrell buried her chance for her third hat-trick in black and amber (well, 2 in black and amber and 1 in blue and white!)
Invicta continued to threaten down the flanks, Commons fired an effort from distance on the right that the keeper saved before Goodhand delivered a cross to Lloyd that ended up being cleared for a corner. Philpott turned the delivered towards goal before Commons, who had taken the corner, fired over from a tight angle.
Lloyd was looking to follow Turrell and complete her hat-trick, with 15 minutes remaining good work on the left saw the ball cut back to her inside the area but a fierce effort was well saved by the Baypoint keeper. Goodhand, also looking for a hat-trick, fired an effort at the keeper from 25 yards but saw it saved. Commons, again looking for her hat-trick, was given the chance by Turrell who selflessly squared the ball to her when through on goal but Commons scuffed an initial effort before finding the side netting with her follow up.
Philpott finally got herself on the scoresheet with 2 minutes to go, Commons delivering a corner from the left the Philpott got a foot to divert it beyond the goalkeeper inside the far post for her first goal for the club.
Immediately from the kick off Edwards won the ball back for Invicta inside the Baypoint half and fed Turrell who didn’t hesitate to fire home her 4th of the afternoon.
Into injury time and Invicta had one more goal in them as Lloyd finally completed her hat-trick, Edwards lifting a bouncing ball in behind the defence for Lloyd to show her strength in holding off a defender before breaking free and firing into the bottom corner.
Upon the restart the referee brought the afternoon to an end, leaving Invicta top of the SECWFL Kent Division 2 East, level on points with Sellindge Ladies but with a vastly superior goal difference after 5 matches.
A trip to Mersham was postponed on Sunday 20th October, the only scheduled fixture in Invicta’s Division at the weekend with other clubs in cup action so Invicta will return to action at the Alcaline Stadium on Sunday 27th October when we host Ramsgate Women in a 2pm kick off.
