History

Hendon FC are now in their 15th season as a supporter owned club, with the supporters having taken control of the club in the summer of 2010. Current Chairman Cyrus Cooper took over his role in 2023.

The club was originally founded in 1908 as Christ Church Hampstead, winning the Finchley & District League Third Division in their inaugural season.

After a Name change to Hampstead Town, they won the Second Division title in 1910 and the First Division title in 1911 before gaining senior status in 1912 when it joined the London and Middlesex Leagues before moving to the Athenian League in 1914.

After the resumption of football following the first world war, Hampstead Town finished 4th in their full debut season in the Athenian League and would come close to winning the league on a number of occasions, before eventually lifting the title 1953, 1956 and 1961.

By this time time they were now known as Hendon which “Town” having been dropped in 1926, a full name change to Golders Green in 1933 and finally the name we know today in 1946, with another club previously known as Hendon having ceased to exist a decade earlier.

It was under the Golden Green name that the club first appeared in the FA Cup proper, where they lost to Southend United in the 1st Round in the 1933/34 season.

In 1963 the club joined the Isthmian League, winning the league title in its second season in 1965 and again in 1973.

Having beaten Invicta in the Isthmian Premier Division Playoff semi-final in 2018, Hendon were beaten on penalties by Dulwich Hamlet in the playoff final to miss out on promotion to the National League South. After after 55 years in the Isthmian League, a restructure of the National League System saw Hendon moved into the newly created Southern League Premier Division South. The move saw the departure of manager Gary McCann, his coaching team and every senior player at the club.

The club has spent the majority of its history playing at Claremont Road, moving into the ground in 1926 before leaving in September 2008. In the following years Hendon ground-shared with Wembley FC and Harrow Borough before moving into their current home at Silver Jubilee Park in 2016. A new 3G surface was laid at the ground in 2022.

After 6 seasons in the Southern League, Hendon were moved back to the Isthmian League for the 2024/25 season.
