The 2023/24 season comes to a close as Invicta take the trip down to Bognor Regis
Invicta
Having come from 3-0 down last Saturday to secure an unbeaten end to the season at the Alcaline Stadium, Invicta will be looking to finish on a high away from home.
Invicta are nursing a few knocks in the final weeks of the season. Cameron Brodie and Jason Fregene were both forced off against Concord Rangers and missed the draw with Dulwich Hamlet so will be doubts for Saturday while a few other players are also carrying knocks, manager Andy Drury will be hoping to have as many as possible passed fit.
Ups & Downs
Going into the final day of the season there are still things to be decided at both ends of the table.
The final relegation spot is yet to be finalised but Cheshunt’s win over Horsham on Tuesday night means Margate will need a monumental swing in goal difference if they are to stay up at their expense.
That defeat for Horsham means that are yet to secure a playoffs spot. They host Concord Rangers and Wingate & Finchley host Carshalton Athletic with both just needing a point to secure their spot. Defeat however will mean a win for Billericay Town over Margate will see the Essex side take the final spot.
In North London meanwhile it is a straight shootout for 2nd place and home playoff advantage as Enfield Town host Chatham. A win for the hosts means they will jump above the Kent side who need just a point to secure what could be a vital advantage for the Bank Holiday Monday playoff final.
In the Isthmian South East we will know 1 side that will be joining us next season by the close of play. Cray Valley PM need just a point at Horndean to secure the title over Ramsgate which whoever finishes second set to join Sittingbourne, Chichester City and There Bridges in the playoffs with the final to be played next Friday evening.
From The Manager
Manager Andy Drury spoke on Thursday:
“This is the last game of the season and maybe it feels like there is nothing to play for, for both clubs, but we want o go down to Bognor and end the season on a high. I know we have a good travelling support going down as we always do, I think some are making a weekend of it! So even though there is nothing at stake we want to give them a good day out.
We have a few players with knocks and niggles that will need assessing at training so we can see where we are before Saturday.”
Kit
Invicta will line up in our away red and white kit for the final match of the season.
Previously
Invicta’s last trip to Bognor was also on the final day of last season, a 2-0 defeat.
Bognor took all 3 points from the return fixture back in November as an early goal secured a 1-0 win in Andy Drury’s first game as permanent manger.
The Opposition
Bognor Regis Town currently sit 12th in the Isthmian Premier Division on 59 points, 9 ahead of Invicta, a win could potentially see them secure a top half finish depending on other results.
Bognor come into the game off the back of 7 points from 3 games away from home in which they have scored 12 goals.
Nyewood Lane hasn’t been a fortress of late for Robbie Blake’s side however, they are without a win since 27th January at home, a run of 8 games that has seen them take just 4 points.
