Hat-tricks from Hayley Turrell, Chloe Lloyd and Rebekah Goodhand plus a birthday goal from Molly Surridge saw Folkestone Invicta Women to a record home win at the Alcaline Stadium and assured progress from Group A of the South East Counties Women’s Football League Kent Divisional Cup.
Invicta knocked on the door from the first whistle with chances falling to Turrell and Lloyd and Natalie Melloy going closest with an effort that thundered back off the crossbar.
In the 20th minute Invicta found the breakthrough, with Goodhand finding Turrell on the edge of the penalty area, Invicta’s top scorer turning away from her defender and finishing past the goalkeeper.
A second came shortly after from a corner, a shot from Nyah Commons blocked by a defender and falling to Lloyd to fire home her first from close range.
Left back Surridge created the 3rd shortly before the half hour mark, driving to the byline and cutting back to Turrell to finish from close range.
Lloyd turned provider for Goodhand’s first of the afternoon, feeding a ball in behind the Maidstone defence for the winger to race through and lift her effort over the goalkeeper into the net.
Two goals in little over a minute sent Invicta in 6-0 up at the break. Surridge again the provider as she found a ball in behind for Turrell to complete her hat-trick before Lloyd found the net after winning the ball off a Maidstone defender on the edge of the penalty area.
Invicta struck again in quick succession short after the break. Lloyd completed her hat-trick after beating a defender to a ball in behind, taking a challenge and doing well to stay on her feet before firing home. 17 second after the restart Turrell had her 4th, controlling a ball over the top of the defence and lifting it over the goalkeeper who got fingertips to the ball but couldn’t keep it out. Turrell thought she had her 5th a minute later but saw her effort come off the underside of the crossbar and bounce back off the goal-line.
Molly Surridge added to her 2 assists with Inivcta’s 9th goal, now at right back she broke forward onto a pass from Commons before firing home from a tight angle. Again Invicta struck quickly after, Turrell intercepting a pass and scoring her 5th with an effort under the Maidstone goalkeeper.
Invicta’s scoring wasn’t done, with Goodhand completing her hat-trick with 2 goals assisted by Melloy, firing both into the bottom corners either side of the Maidstone keeper.
The win for Invicta secured 2nd spot in Group A behind Hollands & Blair reserves and a place in the last 16.
Next up for the women is a return to league action as we host Lydd Town Ladies at the Alcaline Stadium on Sunday 23rd February.
