Folkestone Invicta Football Club are delighted to announce the introduction of walking football, coming soon to the Alcaline Stadium.

The sport of walking football is now popular in over 50 countries worldwide, with over 1600 clubs serving approximately 200,000 players in the UK alone. With County FA leagues, FA national tournaments, European and World Championships to satisfy the more competitive as well as those looking just to enjoy the recreational and social side of the game, walking football offers something for everybody.

The game is enjoyed by beginners, people living with physical and mental conditions, people living in social isolation, injury rehabilitation patients and people wanting to get back into the game they formerly enjoyed and thought of as long gone. The sport offers participants benefits to both their physical and mental health as well as the opportunity to socialise on a regular basis.

Steve Rich founded the county’s first walking football session in 2014 going on to establish a set of rules for the game’s first national tournament, sitting on FA game development and referee rules panels as well as featuring in two Barclays Digital Eagles short films to promote the game alongside ex-players such as Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, Sir Geoff Hurst and Graham Taylor.

“I’m looking forward to setting up a weekly walking football session through Folkestone Invicta Football Club” said Steve. “Through their community value and support, I am confident that we can attract a healthy response in numbers, from beginners to high standard ex-players, all playing the game we love and watch on a weekly basis at the Alcaline Stadium.”

“The session will commence at the neighbouring Three Hills complex with a view to moving home to the Alcaline Stadium once the 3G pitch vision has come to fruition, something that is hugely progressive and exciting. We cannot wait to bring competitive walking football matches to the Alcaline Stadium.”

“Our first step this winter is to focus on getting people here off their sofas, involving them in light exercise on a regular basis, reaping all of the benefits that the game so richly delivers.”

Steve will be beginning with weekly sessions at Three Hills Sports Park, starting on Thursday 28th November. For further information or to register interest, contact Steve at stevewrich@hotmail.com or message the club on social media.
