With 3 wins from our opening 3 pre-season fixtures, Invicta now travel to Isthmian South East Playoff Semi-Finalists Sittingbourne

Invicta

Manager Andy Drury will be taking his Invicta side to the club where he started his career back in 2001. He also had a brief spell at the club during the 2020/21 season.

Invicta come into the fixture off the back of 3 consecutive wins so far this summer, with 2 clean sheets.

25 players have turned turned out for Invicta so far this summer, including players from our youth and academy sides as well as 5 trialists.

From The Manager

Manager Andy Drury spoke following Saturday’s win at Ashford United:

“It will be a tough test. They were unlucky not to go up last season, losing out in the playoffs. I know Ryan Maxwell there, he’s a really good manager, he gets good players and he demands a lot from them. So yes, it will be a tough test, they beat Maidstone 4-1 last week, we need to be on it which I’m sure we will be.”

Kit

Invicta will line up in our red & white away kit on Tuesday evening.

Previously

The sides last met competitively in the 2015/16 season, Invicta running our 3-1 winners at home and 2-1 winners away.

Invicta have won 7 of the last 8 meetings between the sides, all in the Isthmian South Division, with Sittingbourne managing a solitary draw in 2013.

The sides also met in a friendly just before Christmas with Invicta picking up a 3-0 win.

The Opposition

Having fallen in last season’s Isthmian South East Division Playoff Semi-Final after finishing 3rd behind Cray Valley & Ramsgate, Sittingbourne will be looking to push on this campaign.

Manager Ryan Maxwell was born in Northern Ireland and had a playing career spanning England, Scotland and Wales before stepping into management, taking the reins at Braintree Town in 2020.

It’s been a strange summer, with Maxwell originally having departed to move closer to home and set to become manager a Bishop’s Stortford before making a dramatic return to Woodstock Park.

The Brickies have has a positive start to the summer, beating local rivals Faversham Town and National League South side Maidstone United, both 4-1, before losing to Welling United on Saturday.

Joe Boachie, who had a short spell with Invicta last season, now lines up for Sittingbourne having signed for the club earlier in the summer.

The Venue

Situated 2 miles south of Sittingbourne, Woodstock Park has been the home of the town’s football club for 11 years.

The ground has covered seating on 2 sides, with covered standing behind the other goal.

The surface is grass, Invicta’s only away grass fixture this pre-season.

Travel

Always check rail times/strike action before you travel.

The drive to Woodstock Park is approximately 50 minutes, considerably quicker than the 3 and a half hour plus journey via public transport that will involved changing trains at Dover and a 45 minute walk from the nearest bus stop to the stadium! Coming home by public transport won’t get you home until after 9am on Wednesday, if we are to trust Google Maps (which I will).
