On Saturday we welcome Isthmian South East Division side Margate to the Alcaline Stadium for our annual Sid Burvill Trophy match.
The Sid Burvill Trophy
The Sid Burvill Trophy is traditionally played during pre-season in memory of our former gateman who died in 2000. Sid was a popular figure at the club, working for Folkestone Invicta since the club’s move to Cheriton Road in 1991. The gates at the cricket end entrance to the ground bear his initials as a lasting memorial to him.
Saturday will be the 22nd Sid Burvill Trophy match, Invicta winning 16 of the previous 21.
It is the first time Margate have competed for the Sid Burvill Trophy, the 14th club to do so.
Ashford Town/United have competed for the Sid Burvill Trophy more than any other club (5 times), with Tonbridge Angels second (4 times).
Invicta’s record goalscorer Ian Draycott is the fixture’s highest goalscorer with 7 goals.
Should the match finish level after 90 minutes there will be a penalty shootout to determine who wins the trophy. There have been 4 previous shootouts with Invicta winning 3 of them, Thamesmead Town the only visiting side to win a shootout.

Invicta
Heading into the final three matches of our pre-season preparations, manager Andy Drury is now looking to fine tune his squad ahead of the big season opener against Carshalton Athletic.
Evans Kouassi is expected to be available to pull on a black and amber shirt for the first time at home having missed Tuesday evening’s clash with Deal Town, but Tom Derry will still be missing with the eye injury picked up against Herne Bay.
From The Manager
Manager Andy Drury spoke on Tuesday evening following our fixtures against Deal Town:
We’ve got three good games now coming up, starting with Margate. I’d expect them to have a good season in the level below.
With these three games now we’ll treat it like it’s the first game of the season. We are further along in pre-season now and over the last week or so we have answered a few questions and now we are looking to kick on.
It is only pre-season but we will always want to win this game and win the Sid Burvill Trophy, it’s a fixture that has a special place at the club.”
Previously
Margate will provide familiar foes on Saturday, with the sides having competed in the Isthmian Premier Division
The sides met 4 times last season, with Invicta winning 2-0 home and away in the Isthmian Premier Division while Margate won an FA Cup replay 3-1 after a 2-2 draw in the original fixture.
The Opposition
Margate have had a busy summer as they rebuilt following relegation to the Isthmian South East Division.
Ben Greenhalgh has been appointed as player-manager following the departure of Mark Stimson.
Alongside himself, Greenhalgh has retained some key member of the squad for the new season, including central defenders Harry Hudson and Tyrone Sterling as well as bringing fullback Harrison Hatful back to the club from Dulwich Hamlet.
New additions have included some faces that will be very familiar to Invicta fans, with Ibrahim Olutade and Jordon Ababio set to return to the Alcaline Stadium in blue on Saturday.
Margate have won 3 from 6 so far this season, beating Concord Rangers, Whitstable and Corinthian, holding Dartford to a draw and being beaten by Dover and Tonbridge Angels.
