Our final home fixture of pre-season sees Invicta welcome National League South side Maidstone United to the Alcaline Stadium
William John Webb
The game is being played in the memory of William Webb, often known as Willy Webb.
Invicta
With just two games to go until we host Carshalton Athletic on 10th August, manager Andy Drury has been fine-tuning his squad and made two additions this week: winger Ellis Brown and midfielder Eze Ebuzoeme.
Invicta’s Gavin Hoyte will be coming up against his former club, having departed The Gallagher Stadium in the summer to come to Cheriton Road.
Physio Beth Cooper is also a familiar face to our visitors, while her mum Helen is their photographer (and you can see some of the amazing pictures she took for us in our NEW programmes…)
From The Manager
Manager Andy Drury spoke on Saturday:
“We expect Maidstone to be strong, they are also just 2 games away from the start of their season and having gone close to promotion you would expect them to be there again.
The next two games against National League South opponents will give the lads a very good test and show us where we are as a team.”
Previously
The last time the sides met competitively was the 2018 Kent Senior Cup Final, with Maidstone winning on penalties at the Gallagher Stadium.
The sides have met regularly for for pre-season since then, Maidstone having the better of the results but Invicta secured an impressive 3-1 win in August 2021, goals from Ade Yusuff and David Smith.
The Opposition
Having fallen to Worthing in the National League South Playoff Semi-Final last season, manager George Elokobi will be looking to build a squad to go a step further this time and return to the National League.
Maidstone have won 4 out of 5 this summer, having been upset by Sittingbourne early on they have since beaten Woking and Chatham Town. They’ll finish off their preparations for the season with a trip to Whitehawk on Saturday ahead of kicking off away to St Albans City.
Former Invicta goalkeeper Alexis Andre Jr is now number 1 at the Gallagher Stadium, signing for the club earlier in the summer.
