Football returns to the Alcaline Stadium as Invicta play host to SCEFL champions Deal Town on Tuesday evening

Invicta

Invicta finished a run of five games on the road with 4 wins and 1 defeat, with manager Andy Drury now looking to step things up as we hit the home straight of our pre-season preparations.

Dan Smith’s late goal at Herne Bay on Saturday was his 5th in 5 pre-season appearances, Tom Derry second on the list with 3 but will be unavailable for a few games as he recovers from an eye injury picked up on Saturday.

From The Manager

Manager Andy Drury spoke on Thursday morning:

“We’ve got 4 more games left to get us where we need to be for our first game of the season against Carshalton.

I’m looking forward to going back home. The pitch is looking quite good and the changing rooms have been done up for the boys.

We are looking to go and put a performance in against Deal on Tuesday. We are hoping to have more available than we did today and fans can have their first look at what we are building here, and of course we are looking forward to playing in front of them again.”

Previously

Competitive futures between Folkestone Invicta and Deal Town are few and far between. Deal did win the Kent Senior Trophy in 1995 by beating Invicta in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw at Dover.

The sides last met for a pre-season fixture in the summer of 2020 behind closed doors, Invicta winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Alfie Paxman and David Smith.

The Opposition

Deal Town are preparing for their first season at Step 4 having won the SCEFL last season, beating off the likes of Faversham Town, Corinthian and Glebe.

Steve King has strengthened his defence by brining in former Invicta defenders Josh Vincent and Elliott Moore to the club. JV spent last season with Faversham Town after departing Invicta while Moore spent part of last season with Deal on a dual registration while he was at Invicta.

Another familiar face in the Deal squad is Ashley Miller who joined midway through last season from Faversham Town.

Invicta fans may also recognise a Paxman in Deal colours tonight, with Jack (twin brother of former Invicta left back Alfie) returning to the club following a spell at Ramsgate.
