After a perfect start to 2024, Invicta welcome high-flying Wingate & Finchley to the Alcaline Stadium for the first home fixture of the year.

From The Manager

Speaking ahead of the weekend Andy Drury said:

“It was a really positive performance on Monday against Margate and we have to continue to build on that. We are getting players back from injury and getting players fitter and as that continues we will continue to get better. We have tough games coming up in a busy January and we are going out there to fight for as many points as we can take.”

Previously

The sides last met on the opening day of the Isthmian Premier Division season with Invicta running out 4-0 at the Maurice Rebak Stadium with a hat-trick from Ibrahim Olutade and a goal from David Smith.

Invicta have won the last 7 meetings between the teams, a run stretching back to September 2020 when Invicta beat The Blues 4-1 twice in the space of 4 days away in the FA Cup then at home in the league.

Wingate’s last win came with a 1-0 win at Cheriton Road just a few weeks before the COVID19 pandemic first brought football to a halt.

The Opposition

Wingate & Finchley have had an incredible season so far that sees them sitting in 4th place in the Isthmian Premier Division with 40 points from 22 games. Only the top 2 of Hornchurch and Chatham Town have won more games than Wingate and they have only drawn once this season, a 6-goal thriller with Whitehawk in August, the fewest in the league.
