An outrageous and opportunistic strike from midfielder Ade Cole was not enough as Invicta fell to defeat against National South side Dover Athletic.
Invicta will feel unfortunate not to have been ahead at the break, with Dover’s keeper the busier of the two with saves from Ibrahim Olutade & Scott Heard while Andre Coker hit the crossbar with the final kick of the first half with a free kick from wide on the left.
It was then with the first kick of the second half that Invicta took the lead. With many supporters still in the bar or heading back to the terraces, midfielder Ade Cole spotted the Dover goalkeeper a little too far off his line and hit an inch-perfect lob over his head.
Taking the lead, or perhaps the manner of doing so, seemed to affect Invicta as the hosts turned the game around within 8 minutes through strikes from two unnamed trialists.
The hosts could perhaps have extended the lead in the minutes after before the game then drifted with wholesale substitutions from both sides.
Invicta went close to snatching an equaliser at the death as Jordan Ababio beat the Dover goalkeeper to a ball across goal but was unable to find the net.
