We welcome Hythe Town to the Alcaline Stadium for our annual Sid Burvill Trophy fixture

The Sid Burvill Trophy

The Sid Burvill Trophy is traditionally played during pre-season in memory of our former gateman who died in 2000. Sid was a popular figure at the club, working for Folkestone Invicta since the club’s move to Cheriton Road in 1991. The gates at the cricket end entrance to the ground bear his initials as a lasting memorial to him.

This year is the 21st time the fixture has been played. Invicta have won 15 of the previous 20 editions, 3 of those on penalties. This will be the first time Hythe have taken part in the fixture.

Should the scores finish level after 90 minutes the match will go straight to a penalty shootout.

From The Managers

Joint Head Coach Micheal Everitt spoke on Friday evening:

“We’re looking forward to a local derby. Hythe had a fantastic season and will be looking to follow that up. We are expecting a tough tough game and that’s exactly what we want as we look to improve on Tuesday night. Our main focus is working towards the first game of the season and we had a good session on Thursday night. We are glad to be back at home for our final two pre-season fixtures, the pitch is looking good and we hope to have a good support there tomorrow and want to give them an entertaining afternoon on the pitch.”

Previously

Invicta travelled to Hythe Town twice last year. Firstly in the Kent Senior Cup semi final, winning 2-0 and then for a pre-season friendly, winning 3-0. Hythe last visited Cheriton Road in the summer of 2021, with Invicta running out 2-1 winners.

The Opposition

Steve Watt’s side came within 90 minutes of joining Invicta in the Isthmian Premier Division this season. Having secured a playoff spot on the final day of the season and then beaten South East Division runners up Ramsgate, they fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Whitehawk in the playoff final.

The Cannons have been beaten just once during pre-season by Tonbridge Angels, picking up draws with Faversham Town, Larkfield & New Hythe and Rochester United and beating Lordswood, Kennington & Canterbury City
