Pre-season preparations continue on Saturday as we welcome Faversham Town to the Alcaline Stadium
From The Managers
Micheal Everitt spoke to us on Friday:
“It will be good to see a lot of familiar faces tomorrow. They will obviously be looking to bounce back this season from a disappointing campaign and they have recruited well with lots of experience at higher levels.
As it’s their final game before they kick off their league season next week we are expecting to get the version of them that’s as close as they want to be.
We will be looking to build upon our positive second half on Tuesday night, we know the areas we need to improve and we are working hard to do so.
Previously
We last met Faversham Town last season when they visited us for a Velocity Trophy tie in November. Invicta ran out 5-0 winners in torrential weather with Ian Gayle scoring our 22/23 Goal of the Season and Matt Newman scoring his final goal for the club.
The Opposition
Faversham have turned heads with their recruitment this summer and are unsurprisingly many people’s pre-season favourites in the Southern Counties East Football League.
We can expect to see up to EIGHT former Invicta players in their squad tomorrow. Manager Sammy Moore is signed on as part of the playing squad with goalkeeper Bailey Vose, midfielder Kieron McCann and forward Shola Ayoola all retained from last season’s squad. Defenders Matt Newman & Josh Vincent made the move to Salters Lane following departure from Cheriton Road last summer with Ashley Miller signing from Ramsgate and Sam Hasler who we last saw with Hastings United.
They have also brought in prolific forwards Gary Lockyer from Ashford United & Warren Mfula from Sheppey United while Connar Essam will no doubt be at the heart of their defence following his move from National South runners up Dartford.
Faversham will be looking to build momentum ahead of their season kick off next week. They picked up their first win of pre-season on Tuesday night with a Swale Derby win over Sittingbourne. They have also picked up a goalless draw at Hythe Town before defeats at Ramsgate & Burgess Hill. All of their friendlies this summer have been away due to the work to install a new playing surface at their Aquatherm Stadium.
