POOR NIGHT FOR HAMLET AND THE GATE WHILE LEATHERHEAD ARE LET OFF POINTS DEDUCTION BUT THEIR TROUBLES CONTINUE AS THEY NOW FACE SEVEN GAMES IN 17 DAYS

Goals from one time Folkestone interest Alex Akrofi and Sam Bantick, who left Bostik North Heybridge Swifts under something of a cloud to move to the South East, gave Tonbridge what many will see as a shock 2-1 win over Dulwich Hamlet who didn’t pull anything back till wingback Nathan Green netted a consolation for the visitors last night (Tuesday).

Form seems to have deserted Gavin Rose’s Hamlet side who announced yesterday that they will continue to groundshare at Tooting & Mitcham FC next season because of the ongoing dispute with their landlords at Champion Hill – Meadow Residential.

Margate, still without the injured Liam Friend, crashed to 2-0 defeat at Hartsdown Park against lower mid-table visitors Kingstonian.

Friend, who has been a key player at the Gate since his move from Folkestone last summer, has now missed the last two games.

And Steve Watt’s side have won just once and taken only nine points from their last nine games as their play-off chances look increasingly slender.

Hendon will have been very disappointed at coming back from the East Anglian coast with nothing after losing 2-1 to struggling Lowestoft who looked a better side than their league position suggested when leading for most of the second half before late strikes from Joe Taylor and Ade Yusuff sent them back on the long journey home to Suffolk with nothing to show for their efforts.

The only side from that part of the world to figure in the play-off race are Leiston who did their chances no harm at all by beating always awkward Harrow Borough 3-0 who probably didn’t themselves too much on the way back towards London.

The eighth placed club, Leatherhead, reported yesterday that they will not now be suffering a points deduct fielding French centre back Yannis Ambroisine in a league game earlier this season.

The Tanners were legally represented at an appeal hearing last week, where they cited ‘compelling mitigating circumstances’ for the registration error and were fined just £100.

They still however face another hearing for the player appeared in both FA Cup and FA Trophy ties earlier this season.

And their game at home to Brightlingsea last night was called off leaving them now still with seven games to play in the next 17 days – more than any of the other play-off contenders.
