Thanks David!

Folkestone Invicta are sorry to announce that David Smith has agreed to join National League club and current Buildbase F.A. Trophy holders Bromley for the 2022/23 season.

David, pictured above (courtesy of Randolph File), initially joined Invicta from South East Division Ashford United  for the start of the 2020/21 season, having been leading scorer for ‘The Nuts and Bolts’ the season before, with 23 goals from 41 appearances in all competitions.

Overall, he made 72 appearances (all starting), scoring a very creditable 41 goals. He made his debut against Worthing on the opening day of the season, which due to delays caused by the Covid pandemic was on Saturday 19th September 2020, and he scored in a 2-1 defeat. His last goal came in last season’s Kent Senior Cup Final against Dartford when he hit the second equaliser before we eventually went down 6-2.

Manager Neil Cugley said: “I’m sorry to see David go, and obviously we’ll miss his goals, but he said he wanted to try playing at a higher level. “We offered him improved terms, but as I’ve said before we won’t stand in any player’s way if they want to move up the leagues. “There were three clubs interested, and Bromley were the ones that he finally agreed terms with. “I’d like to thank him for what he did here and  hope he does well at his new club.”

On his departure, David tweeted: “Sad to say my time at Folkestone has come to an end, it’s been an absolute pleasure to play in front the supporters. “I’d like to thank the gaffer for putting his trust into me and all the staff at the club for making me feel so welcome during my stay.”  He then added: “Big shout out to my teammates who looked after me during my 1 and a half seasons, I’m going to miss every single one of you guys and also a huge shout out to the best media man in all of non-league @AnthonyFifc, I will           probably miss you the most mate.”

The club would like to him for all his efforts whilst at Invicta and wish him well at Bromley in the next stage of his career.
