Ian Draycott goes into Saturday’s Emirates F.A. Cup tie as the new holder of Invicta’s senior goalscoring record, having beaten Jimmy Dryden’s previous total with his 142nd goal last weekend against Potters Bar Town.

The pictures above (courtesy of Randolph File), show his penalty hitting the net and then our two main men up-front, David Smith and Ade Yusuff, recognising a top striker and being the first to celebrate with him.

Dryden scored his 141st goal for the club against Lowestoft Town on the last day of the 2010/11 season in what was his 407th appearance. He had however broken the previous senior goalscoring record over the Easter Weekend of 2005 when on Good Friday he scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Leyton and he followed that up with the only goal of the game against Dover Athletic on Easter Monday. That was his 89th goal for the club, which took him past Paul Chambers. (Jimmy also broke the then appearance record in the same season, which was achieved in the infamous match against Hampton & Richmond when Referee Gavin Hoare went walkabout!).

By contrast, when ‘Draycs’ broke the record, it was in his 273rd appearance for the club with his first goal away at Three Bridges at the start of the 2014/15 season.

Neil was pleased that the record had been broken, saying: “He has been a good pro ever since he has been at the club, and everybody knows he is a top person and a really easy-going lad. “As he has got a bit older, he has played a bit deeper, but he can still definitely do a job for us, I’m delighted for him.” Looking ahead, Neil added: “As long as he stays fit, he can keep going, certainly we hope until the end of this season anyway! No disrespect to him, but he is not a fifty-game-a-season man any more, but I cannot see any reason why he can’t carry on.”

A couple more pictures (thanks again to Randolph File) showing all the players joining in the celebrations after that historic penalty!

Even on the day he broke the record, ‘Draycs’ was still picking up awards and the picture below shows Club Chairman Paul Morgan presenting him with the August ‘Goal of the Month’ prize for his strike in the season opener against Worthing.

Finally, congratulations ‘Draycs’ on your achievement

and let’s hope there are many more goals to come!!
