Since his sad recent death, the club has been thinking of ways that we can celebrate Harry Lester’s   contribution to the club and have a permanent reminder of all he did. The 50/50 Draws in his name are currently on the go, but we also wanted something a bit more permanent.

So, we have decided to install the Harry Lester Electronic Clock and Scoreboard as pictured below.

You may be asking why we’ve made this decision, but older supporters may remember that when the Folkestone Town club played in the Southern League, as part of their League sponsorship, Beazer Homes supplied a clock which had one hand and a segment showing forty-five minutes.

It needed to be started at kick-off, and then at half-time the hand had to be moved back to the top of the clock in readiness to time the second half. Harry was the man who took charge of doing this, and he was a familiar site heading towards the Brian Merryman Stand (or Grandads’ Stand as it was known then!) with a long white pole in his hand before the game and at half-time, so it would seem appropriate to turn back the clock (literally!) and honour him in this way.

It is planned to have the scoreboard in situ and officially opened for the pre-season game which will be arranged in Harry’s memory. At the time of writing, it is unclear when this will be, but once we have more detail concerning the start of next season (although it had been mentioned that the League may start on either Saturday 7th or Saturday 14th August), we will be able to start planning.

The Lester family have kindly donated towards the cost, but if you would like to make a donation too in memory of Harry, please let Neil Cugley know by calling 07770 558 578. Anyone who does donate will have their name mentioned in the programme and their name will be announced at the game on the day of the unveiling.
