Ending the Season. !!!
ENDING THE SEASON IS ON SURVEY.
A Second null and void season at step 3 and 4 is looking likely with clubs set to receive a survey from the FA this week. Following the third national lockdown introduced by the government last Monday the outlook for the 2020-21 season looks bleak.
The Trident Leagues - Isthmian, Northern and Southern leagues, say their boards “hold the view that the season should cease immediately and be declared null and void”. However, the views of member clubs will now be sought by an FA survey. While it is not a strict vote, the response will inform the decision.
Clubs will be asked if they believe the season should be terminated as soon as possible and what the alternative should be if not. Currently the Northern, Southern and Isthmian Leagues each have 600-660 fixtures left to play and even if the season was extended until May 31st most clubs would be playing three times a week and some possibly four, raising significant player welfare issues.
In the meantime, the leagues are continuing the postponement of fixtures up until March 6th. The ultimate decision lies with the FA Council, following a proposal made by the Alliance Committee but no proposal will be drafted until clubs’ views have been collated and assessed.
Meanwhile The FA continue to push hard for the £14m winter survival fund set aside for steps 3-6 through Sport England to be formed of grants rather than loans.
