Potters Reaction.

Following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Potters Bar Town manager Neil Cugley gave us his reaction:

“Outstanding [performance] really, disappointed we didn’t win by a lot more. A lot of chances and even their manager said we deserved to win by 3 or 4. It was important going to Bishop’s Stortford after last Saturday when I was disgusted with how we adapted and played and we had to bounce back and we bounced back at Bishop’s Stortford and today I thought we looked a good team.

[Sammy Moore] did well, he looked a bit leggy on Tuesday and today he did a lot better, he’s just a quality passer of the ball and that makes you keep the ball. To be fair I thought we played some great football today.

[Ollie Tanner] did alright, he’s a good lad and obviously we’d spoken to Neil Smith at Bromley about a few players as we thought we needed to liven things up. He’s been playing under 23a football but he did alright today.

Potters Bar are very good at counter attacking and had a big win midweek and I thought we defended well today. I say it yet again the league is good, the league is hard, every game is difficult.

I thought our fans were brilliant today, especially second half attacking that end and we need the fans behind us. Obviously the team needs to play well to get the fans behind them and we played really well, we played the right football and got the right result, I think they deserved that. I said before I think our fans are tremendous and it’s great that they come to watch the game and get behind the team.”

We also spoke to Sammy Moore following his home debut:

“Brilliant [to make my debut today]. I’ve been speaking to the gaffer for a long time and I wanted to come back and enjoy my football and there’s no better way than to get 3 points and to see a crowd of over 500 was great. I thought they were brilliant and we could have won by more, we had lots of chances second half, the positive is that we’re creating those chances and if we’d taken them it could have been 4 or 5. A great win and I’m looking forward to Tuesday night.

I just wanted to enjoy my football, its been a great experience managing for the past 2 years and being fairly successfully but I wanted to come and play and enjoy my football. I wanted my girls to see me play and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve played 2 games and it’ll take a little while for me to get top to speed. I thought the team was excellent, we controlled the game and its a good 3 points. It makes Tuesday’s point at Bishop’s Stortford even better.

I felt so much better today, my touch, a little bit more sharpness, it’s probably going to take me a month to get fit but the gaffer says I’m only going to get fit playing games. I’ve loved it and I've settled in really well with the boys. It’s good for me, where I've been a manager and when I go on the pitch I can help others and have that influence off the pitch as well if the gaffer asks me what I think. It’s a great football club and I've loved it so far and hopefully we can push up the table and be successful.

It’s brilliant to have over 500 here, it’s outstanding and they got behind the team second half. Once we got 1 they were the 12th man to try and help us get another. We created a lot of chances and people will go away thinking it could have been 4 or 5 but we got a clean sheet and 3 points.

It’s 2 unbeaten and in this league you have to be consistent and you’ve got to turn up to every game, if you don’t you get beat and it’s a tough ask on Tuesday. They’ve spent a bit bringing in the likes of Adam Cunnington and players like that who can cause you problems but we’ve got a good squad here, everyone is hungry to win and that was a big desire for me to come, the gaffer wants to win the league and get promoted and I’m a winner and want to do the same. The fans were outstanding today a long may that continue that we continue to get over 500 and they continue to drive us on.”
