Emirates F.A. Cup Update - Preliminary Round

Whilst we were playing our last pre-season game of the season against Dover Athletic, the majority of the Pitching In Isthmian League sides were playing in the Preliminary Round of this season’s Emirates F.A. Cup.

Due to the way the draw was arranged this season, the round involved three sides from the Premier Division, but all got through with relative ease. Carshalton Athletic beat South East Division Whitstable 5-1 at home.  They took the lead eight minutes before half time through David Fisher and it was 2-0 soon after when Ernold Haxiu doubled their advantage. After the break Jordan Cheadle, Tommy Bradford and Omar Koroma added further goals before Ollie Rowe got a late consolation for ‘The Oystermen’.

Bowers & Pitsea also went nap, winning by the same score at home against Barton Rovers of the Southern League Division One Central. Daniel Trendall gave the home side the lead on the half-hour mark and it was two before the break as Quentin Monville added a second. Billy Knott then scored two penalties to wrap up the game and although the visitors got one back a fifth from Kamal De Bourg rounded off a 5-1 victory.

Kingstonian welcomed Combined Counties Premier Division side Horley Town to King George’s Field, and were quickly ahead through Corie Andrews. Simon Cooper made it two, four minutes before the break, and then added his second with just over twenty minutes remaining. Their opponents then pulled a goal back before Lewis Pearch made it 4-1 twelve minutes from time.

You’ll have noticed that COVID-19 has had its say again, as Haywards Heath Town received a walkover as their opponents from the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division, Broadbridge Heath, had to withdraw due to three of their players having positive tests.

There also seem to be a couple of matters outstanding, firstly Sevenoaks Town’s game against Combined Counties League Premier Division side CB Hounslow United was abandoned with them 3-0 ahead, and they have advised; “We are investigating an alleged matter and no further comment will be made until this process has been concluded”.   Burgess Hill Town also announced that some of their players were showing COVID-19 symptoms, originally, they said that it wouldn’t affect their F.A. Cup tie against SCEFL Premier Division Hollands & Blair, but it now seems to have been postponed, so it would appear to be that they will be removed from the competition to maintain consistency which would be unfortunate, although there may of course be extenuating circumstances.

The draw for the First Qualifying Round, when we enter, will be made on Monday, details will appear on the website once known.
