2019/20 Attendances

Having reviewed the goalscoring exploits in the last article, this one looks at the Isthmian League Premier Division attendances for the season that never was!

Monthly Averages

The table below shows the monthly total attendances and compares them with the previous season, which was of course completed. As you can see the overall attendances and averages are slightly lower this season, although with the climax to the season and a number of important matches not being played it is likely that the overall average would be close to last season’s. Please note, the figures below are only for the scheduled League season, the Play-Offs (for last season) are excluded.

Each Clubs’ Average Attendance

This next table shows each clubs average attendance for this season, and then compares it with the previous one and shows the percentage difference. The reason clubs have played a different number of matches is because some had more left to play than others when the season ended.

As you can see, Invicta had an increase of just under 12% on last season and again that could possibly have been increased had we played our four remaining home games, especially with one of them being against Cray Wanderers who were also challenging for the League Title.

Surprisingly ‘The Wands’ only saw a small increase of almost 2% on last season, but they were one of the three promoted clubs that saw an increase. Cheshunt went up by an excellent 30%, whilst Horsham had an incredible leap of 231% as the ‘double whammy’ of promotion and moving back to playing in Horsham took a real effect, not to mention that they were also in the mix for a Play-Off place before the season’s curtailment. The only club to see a drop following promotion were Bowers & Pitsea, who will disappointed to see a decrease of a fraction over 24%.

The only relegated club to play in the Premier Division, East Thurrock United, would also have been disappointed as their average attendance dropped by almost 30%.

Club by Club - Best Attendances

So, having seen the averages, which clubs had the highest and lowest best attendances of the season? This is what the table below shows.

You will notice that a number of the clubs’ best attendances were set on Saturday 12th October last year, this was Non-League Day which may explain why.

Summary by Month of Best Season’s Attendances

The usual Bank Holidays in August and then around Christmas were the times when most clubs got their best attendances, although surprisingly Invicta were the only one to register a best attendance on Boxing Day. As already mentioned the larger than number expected in October is due to Non-League Day being on the 12th.

Top Ten Attendances

As you can see, Worthing attracted the majority of the top attendances, but it does show how important it is to have local rivals in the Division as Sussex derbies account for half the top ten.

Isthmian League Top Twenty Attendances

That’s about it for the Premier Division, but here are details of the top twenty attendances within the entire Isthmian League. As expected the Premier Division have the majority of the League’s best attendances, but thanks mainly to Guernsey (and not forgetting Hastings United and Herne Bay!), the South East Division also has good representation, with none from either the North or South Central Divisions.
