Looking To The End Of The Season

A number of questions have arisen concerning what is happening at the end of the season as far as both the Play-Offs and relegation are concerned, so hopefully here are the answers as we enter the last three months of the season.

Important Dates

Alan Turvey Trophy (sponsored by Velocity)

The Final is scheduled to be played at Aveley on Wednesday 1st April, kick-off 7:30pm.

FINAL

Saturday 2nd May

Usually, the Premier Division Final is played on the May Day Bank Holiday, but this year to mark the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day which will occur on Friday 8th May the Bank Holiday has been moved to that date, so the Final will be played on Sunday 3rd instead.

As a reminder in the Semi Finals, the side that finished 2nd will be at home to the one that finished 5th, whilst 3rd place will entertain 4th with the Final being played on the home ground of the highest placed winners remaining.

Relegation

Due to the formation of an extra Division at Step 4 which will complete the ‘Non-League Pyramid’ so the structure will be 1-2-4-8-16 for the start of next season, to ensure each Step has enough clubs, only ten  will be relegated from the four Step 3 Premier Divisions rather than the usual twelve, or three from each Division. Therefore, the bottom two will go down automatically plus the two sides that finish third from bottom with the worst records from the four Divisions.

So how are things going at the moment? Here are details of the current bottom five in each Division, so you can see who may or may not go down from the BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division, although at the moment on average the Isthmian League clubs are all amongst the lowest ranked, so one will probably go down. The tables are based on the standings after last weekend’s fixtures.

To clarify the picture a bit more, if we assume the bottom two clubs are going to be relegated and take them out from each Division, here are the rankings of the clubs remaining using their Points Per Game (PPG) average. Don’t forget only one third from bottom team can be relegated from a particular Division, so, if two Isthmian League Premier Division clubs were the lowest they wouldn’t both be relegated, but as mentioned it isn’t looking too good for two of the Isthmian League sides (highlighted), although Cheshunt received a boost following their 6-1 win at Lewes at the weekend.
