Haringey Borough First To Visit The BuildKent Stadium In 2020

For our first BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division game of 2020 at the BuildKent Stadium, Haringey Borough are the visitors, kick off 3:00pm.

Our opponents come to the game in 14th place having won eight, drawn three and lost eight although their away record doesn’t compare favourably with their home one as they have won just two (3-2 at Leatherhead and 1-0 at Cheshunt, which were their first two away games of the season), drawn one (1-1 at Cray Wanderers) and lost five (1-0 at both Wingate & Finchley and Merstham, 2-0 at Bognor Regis Town, 4-2 at East Thurrock United and 5-3 at Enfield Town), which sees them currently 19th in the away form table.

They did however have an excellent run in the Emirates F.A. Cup, reaching the Fourth Qualifying Round before going out 3-0 in a replayed home tie against Yeovil Town after the first game had been postponed amid racist and unsavoury crowd behaviour which saw Manager Tom Loizou lead his team off the field.

At the end of last season a number of players left the club and so they’ve had to rebuild and are still doing so as since the New Year, they have picked up goalkeeper Jonathan Miles from South-East Division Ramsgate and  Roman Michael-Percil from Premier Division Potters Bar Town. Towards the end of 2019 they also signed defender Michael O’Donoghue on loan from Vanarama National League South Concord Rangers, plus strikers Daniel Akindayini and Sergen Erkarslan both from Premier Division Cheshunt, with the former coming on as a second half substitute when ‘The Ambers’ played at the BuildKent Stadium in October, and Keanu Williams from South-Central Division Bedfont Sports. One possible member of their squad on Saturday who will be more well known to Invicta fans is full back Salvyn Kisitu, who made ten appearances for Invicta at the start of the 2017/18 season.

And What About Us?

For the second time, the chance to play some of the players who hadn’t had minutes on the pitch recently was foiled when the Kent Reliance Kent Senior Cup game at Tonbridge Angels was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Speaking to Roland Edge, he said; “It was a shame that game was called off, Chin [McKenzie] needed a full game as although he has shown quality when he has played, he needs longer on the pitch to get his fitness up. “Blanksey [Nat Blanks] is in the same position as he’ll come in on Saturday with Alfie [Paxman] suspended, having not had many minutes neither. “It would also have given us a chance to get a win which would have given us a boost especially against a team from a higher league.” As mentioned, Alfie Paxman starts his three match suspension having been sent off at Brightlingsea Regent last Saturday, but what about the others, Edgy added; “After the game had been called off we had a good training session at the Three Hills, but neither Matt [Newman] nor Sam [Hasler] took part and although they will both be checked on Saturday, they must be doubtful, I would have thought”.
