Phew! - Home At Last!

        vs

On Tuesday we play our first home game since our 5-1 Kent Reliance Kent Senior Cup victory against Hythe Town on October 29th, when Kingstonian visit for a BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division game, kick-off 7:45pm. After Saturday’s results, a win will put us three points clear at the top of the table, as we play our game in hand on Horsham, before we meet them on Saturday.

Last season Kingstonian finished in 18th place just four points from safety, having flirted with relegation for the majority of the second half of the season, when they picked up just seven points from their last eighteen games. Not surprisingly at the end of the season a decision was made to appoint a new Manager and they went to the highly experienced and well regarded Hayden Bird from Merstham. Having been appointed, he then brought his back-room staff with him along with  no less than eleven of the ‘Moatsiders’ players that had reached the Premier Division Play-Off Final before losing at Tonbridge Angels.

They are currently 16th in the table, but they have games in hand on every club and while they haven’t got going fully yet in the League, they have been excellent in the F.A. competitions, last Saturday they played Vanarama National League and Buildbase F.A. Trophy holders AFC Fylde in the Second Round of the Emirates F.A. Cup having won 4-0 at Sky Bet EFL League Two side Macclesfield Town in the First Round, although their run came to an end as they unfortunately lost 2-0 in front of an attendance of 1,460. They have also reached the First Round of this season’s Buildbase Trophy where they have drawn an intriguing local derby at home against Vanarama National League side Woking.

Going back to the League and so far they’ve picked up eighteen points from fourteen games with four wins, six draws and four defeats, whilst away from home, they’ve won three (1-0 at both Merstham and Haringey Borough and 2-0 at Brightlingsea Regent), drawn two (1-1 at Wingate & Finchley and 2-2 at Carshalton Athletic) and lost two (3-0 at Hornchurch and 2-0 at Worthing), so currently they are showing better form on the road.

And What About Us?

We look as if we will be at full strength tomorrow as no one suffered any ill effects from Saturday’s game at Lewes, speaking to Neil on Sunday, he said; “I’m looking forward to the Kingstonian game and catching up with their Manager Hayden Bird. “He has always had good footballing sides in the past and I expect Kingstonian to be in the pack looking for a Play-Off place at the end of the season, the only reason they are where they are at the moment is that they’ve had good cup runs and have fallen behind with their League games. “One thing is for certain, to pick up the three points we shall probably have to play better than we did at Lewes on Saturday!.”

Form Guide

The below shows the results of Invicta’s last six home games and Kingstonian’s last six away with the most  recent first.

Folkestone Invicta           -             WLWWWW (currently 2nd in the home form table)

Kingstonian                      -             WDWLWL (currently 9th in the away form table).

Goals Scored

The chart below shows the League goals scored by Invicta (33, which is currently the third highest in the Division) and Kingstonian (14, which is currently the third lowest) and the times during the game they did so, which is split into fifteen minute segments.

Scoring goals appears to be a problem with the ‘The Ks’ this season, their leading scorer (League only) is Louis Theophanous who has scored six, which is an impressive 43% of their total scored. Others to have chipped in include Dan Bennett and Tom Kavanagh, who have two each.

Goals Conceded

Whilst Kingstonian have only scored a goal a game in the League so far this season, they have been hard to break down at the other end, conceding just sixteen goals, the same as Invicta, which is   currently the fourth best in the League. The chart also shows the game split into fifteen minute segments.

Previous Results

As you can see our record at home against ‘The Ks’ is fairly good as of the ten games played, we’ve only lost two out of ten plus another on penalties. After beating us 1-0 in front of 727 spectators in the Second Round of the 1999/2000 competition when, at the time, they were second in what was then the Vauxhall Conference (now the Vanarama National League), they went on to win the F.A. Trophy at Wembley, beating Kettering Town 3-2. They’d also won it the previous season, beating Forest Green Rovers 1-0 in what were halcyon days for the side as it contained a number of England Non-League Internationals, including goalkeeper Geoff Farrelly, defender/midfielder Tarkan Mustafa and forward David Leworthy .
