BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division - Saturday 31st August Round-up

Following a 1-0 victory at Horsham, courtesy of a Johan Ter Horst winner, Folkestone Invicta remained top and the Division’s only unbeaten club. Haringey Borough and Hornchurch, in 2nd and 3rd, continue to keep up the pace as both won 2-0 at home against East Thurrock United, who were the only team in the top six to lose this week, and Wingate & Finchley. The scorers for ‘The Borough’ were Anthos Solomou and Georgios Aresti both before the break, whilst Joe Dickson, who leapt to the top of the goalscorers’ charts, and Joe Christou scored for ‘The Urchins’.

Carshalton Athletic moved up to 4th with their third successive victory following a 2-0 win at home against Bognor Regis Town with goals in the first twenty minutes from Christie Pattison and Jerry Amoo, although ‘The Robins’ ended the game with ten men following the dismissal of Daniel Pappoe. Enfield Town complete the current Play-Off places as they are now 5th, following a 1-0 win at Wingate & Finchley with Billy Bricknell scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot in the first half. In one of the day’s highest scoring game, Bishop’s Stortford with veteran striker Jamie Cureton grabbing a brace and the other coming from Ryan Charles, beating Cheshunt 3-2 with the visitors’ goals coming from Tom Hitchcock and Taylor McKenzie.

The fourth 2-0 win of the day saw Worthing win at Margate with late goals from Ricky Aguiar and Danny Barker. Worthing’s Sussex neighbours Lewes were looking for their first win after a poor start to the season, but having signed three players on Friday, they emphatically won 4-1 at Leatherhead to move up to 3rd from bottom and send ‘The Tanners’ to the bottom of the table with just two points. Charlie Coppola and Jordy Mongoy scored in the first half whilst Martin Box and and Kayne Diedrick-Roberts extended the lead for ‘The Rooks’ in the second, with Eddie Dsane getting a consolation for the home side.

In between Lewes and Leatherhead lie Corinthian-Casuals and they are still looking for their first win following a 1-0 defeat at Brightlingsea Regent whose winner came fifteen minutes from time courtesy of Ace Howell. Potters Bar Town and Cray Wanderers shared the points at the Pakex Stadium in a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the last five minutes. Bradley Sach put ‘The Scholars’ ahead only for Joe Taylor to equalise for ‘The Wands’ in time added on. This appears to have been a feisty affair with no less than eight bookings as Cray Wanderers picked up five yellows whilst Potters Bar Town got three.

Finally, Merstham entertained ex-Merstham or Kingstonian as they are more commonly known,  when Hayden Bird took his new charges back to his old club and ‘The Ks’ registered their first victory of the season with the only goal of the game coming from ‘The Moatsiders’ former Captain Tom Kavanagh, although with eight former Merstham players in ‘The Ks’ team it was likely that one of their former players would score against them.

There are no Premier Division games next Saturday as all twenty-two clubs are in the Emirates F.A. Cup and will be playing in the First Qualifying Round.
