Our great rivals Dover Athletic are the latest addition to Folkestone Invicta’s list of pre-season friendlies with the National League club set to visit the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday, July 22nd with a 3pm kick-off.

Along with League One play-off finalists Millwall who take on Bradford City for a place in the Championship at Wembley on May 20th, and Dagenham & Redbridge who made the National League play-offs, a visit from the Whites makes this the strongest pre-season line-up that Folkestone have had for some years.

“I’m already feeling quite excited by the prospect of those three games especially” said manager Neil Cugley.

The departure of club captain Liam Friend has though left the boss needing to find a replacement for the long-serving defender while also looking to strengthen his squad in other positions.

“We signed Ade Yusuff a couple of weeks ago and majority of last season’s squad are now signed up again including Tim Roberts, Callum Davies, Blanksy (Nat Blanks), JV (Josh Vincent), Joe Taylor and Draycs (Ian Draycott), while Ashley (Miller) was already on a two year deal.

“We’re still waiting to find out about Ronnie Dolan’s (ankle) injury, but all in all I’m fairly happy with the situation.

“As you know, we’d offered Liam Friend the chance to become player-coach which he turned down but  I spoke the other day to a midfielder who may be interested in joining us on that basis.

“I’ve also been talking to several other players, and it could well be that we’ll have more new faces than our supporters have been used to by the time that we start the season in August.

“I’ve never been a great one for making major changes but with Friendy and perhaps one or two others going it’s a chance to give us something of a fresh-look for the coming season.

“We’ve got a sensible wage budget, but Margate offered Liam much more than we could ever think about. We’re quite lucky that the players we get here come because they like the club and the way we doing things and not just for the money.”
