Saturday 8th January Round-up.

Due to Covid protocols or waterlogged pitches, only four of the scheduled games were played on Saturday afternoon, but despite this, the way the results went meant that Worthing and Folkestone Invicta remained 1st and 2nd respectively.

But before the details of the games played, news that after their 3-0 defeat at the BuildKent Stadium, Leatherhead appointed Luke Tuffs as their new Manager, if you recognise the name, he was previously in charge at Ashford Town (Middx) when Invicta beat ‘The Tangerines’ 7-2 in the Emirates F.A Cup earlier this season. Tuffs hasn’t wasted any time in naming Jermaine McGlashen, who has joined from Maidstone United although he was also joint Under 18s Manager at Ashford Town (Middx), as his Assistant Player/Manager.

Now onto the games. Enfield Town, who were 4th before kick-off, entertained Lewes, who were 5th, and it was ‘The Rooks’ that came away with the points following an excellent 4-1 win. Michael Klass gave the away side the lead after thirty-two minutes, but that was cancelled out by Adam Cunnington some seven minutes later, and that is how the score remained as the sides went into the break. However, in the second half, Razz Coleman De-Graft, on the hour, Klass with his second six minutes later, and Joe Taylor in the seventy-third minute wrapped up the points which sees Lewes move up to 3rd whilst ‘The Towners’ slipped to 6th.

Bishop’s Stortford dropped from 3rd to 4th following a 2-0 defeat at Hornchurch. Ola Ogunwamide gave the home side the lead on the half-hour, before ‘Urchins’ skipper Lewwis Spence clinched the points in the sixty-third minute to move them up from 9th to 7th.

19th placed Brightlingsea Regent entertained 7th placed Kingstonian, and initially the game went as expected as Ollie Cook gave ‘The Ks’ the lead after only three minutes, but then goals either side of half time from Zack Littlejohn and Aaron Blair put the home side ahead. However, Kingstonian then fought back with three goals in seven minutes from Daniel Ajakaiye and Elliott Buchanan, who grabbed a brace, to clinch a 4-2 victory and move up to 5th.

The only other game to be completed was a game involving two sides in the lower reaches of the table as Wingate & Finchley defeated Bowers & Pitsea 2-0 at the Maurice Rebak Stadium. Goals from Antonis Vasiliou and Tyrique Clarke at the end of the first and second halves respectively saw ‘The Blues’ climb from 17th to 15th, whilst Bowers & Pitsea remain in 18th.
