Now We Are On ‘The Rocks'

                              vs

On Tuesday we visit East Thurrock United (‘The Rocks’) for a Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division game, kick-off 7:45pm. They are another side, that due to the COVID pandemic, we didn’t play last season, and when it was terminated, they were second from bottom of the table with just five points from nine games, although in the combined table from the past two seasons based on Points Per Game (PPG), they occupied a mid-table position of 13th.

So far this season they’ve registered one win, drawn twice, suffered two defeats, and are lying in 15th place. They started the season with a 3-0 defeat at Cheshunt, before picking up their first point in the next game, a 2-2 home draw against Bognor Regis Town when Joe Cook (own goal) and Ben Wyss were on the scoresheet. They then picked up their first three points of the season with a 2-1 victory at Bowers & Pitsea where Alex Hernandez and Paulius Ditkevicius were on target, before returning to Rookery Hill and sharing the points in a 1-1 draw with Brightlingsea Regent, with their goal again coming from Hernandez. On Saturday, they went down 3-2 at Worthing despite taking the lead twice through Johnny Ashman and Ditkevicius in the first half.

They’ve also advanced in the Emirates F.A. Cup, winning 3-1 at Northern Premier Midlands Division Cambridge City with goals from Hernandez, who scored two, one from the penalty spot to make it four for the season so far, and Ashman. They are now at home against Needham Market in the Second Qualifying Round.

Like a number of teams, they have a much-changed squad for this season. Goalkeeper Chiedozie Nwosu has signed on, as have defenders Ryan Mallett, Fahed Nazor and Rimmel Daniels who have moved from North Division Tilbury, Brightlingsea Regent and Waltham Abbey, respectively. They’ve also signed midfielders Johnny Ashman from North Division Barking, Nana Adarkwa from Cheshunt, Jedidah Brown from North Division Basildon United, George Pugh and Rob Lacey from North Division Canvey Island, which is where forward Tobi Joseph has also joined from.

They’ve also been unfortunate already with injuries this season, with new signing Nana Adarkwa and defender Tom Barton suffering ankle injuries and forward Alfie Cue will also be missing as he recovers from a knee injury originally picked up last season.

Looking ahead to the game, Neil said: “There’s not much to add to what I said after the Horsham game, although what we have learnt so far this season is that there are no easy games, and we’ll have to play well to pick up the three points. “As far as the injuries are concerned, we’ll just have to see how everyone is on the evening, before making a decision to the starting line-up and indeed the squad.”
