BetVictor Isthmian League - Saturday 2nd November Round-up

League leaders Folkestone Invicta shared the points following a 1-1 draw at Carshalton Athletic, which was the home side’s fifth successive draw. ‘The Robins’ took the lead in the 39th minute through Tommy Bradford, but four minutes into the second half, Jerson Dos Santos equalised against one of his former clubs. With Invicta dropping points, Horsham in 2nd place, took advantage by closing to within two following a 2-1 win at Haringey Borough thanks to a 90th minute winner from Kieron Pamment. This came after ‘The Hornets’ had taken the lead after nine minutes through Rob O’Toole, which was incidentally the 400th goal scored in this season’s Premier Division competition, before Georgios Aresti equalised for the home side in the 32nd minute.

Enfield Town’s game at Bognor Regis Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch which allowed Hornchurch to leapfrog above them into 3rd position as ‘The Urchins’ won 3-1 at home against Potters Bar Town. The away side took the lead after nineteen minutes when their leading scorer Josh Hutchinson scored from the penalty spot, but goals from Charlie Stimson in the first half plus Marvin Morgan and Daniel Uchechi in the second gave the hosts the points. Worthing remained in 5th place after an entertaining 2-2 draw at home against Cray Wanderers in a game which had a frenetic  finish. Joe Taylor gave ‘The Wands’ a 1-0 lead at the interval. but they were pegged back by Ricky Aguiar twenty minutes into the second half. That was how the score remained until time added on at the end of the game, when first Jay Leader scored in his own net which seemed to have sealed victory for the home side, but then Aguiar also put the ball into his own net to level the scores and Worthing’s Jesse Starkey received his second yellow card for disputing the awarding of a corner which lead to the equaliser.

East Thurrock came from behind to beat Wingate & Finchley after ‘The Blues’ had taken a half-time lead through Charlie Ruff. However, on seventy minutes, Tanasheh Abrahams was sent off and their resistance was finally broken with three goals in the last six minutes from Mitchell Gilbey, Sewa Marah and Sean Bonnet-Johnson, although their leading scorer, Frankie Merrifield, had earlier blasted a penalty over the bar. Margate won 2-1 at Corinthian-Casuals having made a flying start with a goal within the first minute from Elliott Reeves and when Al-Hafeez Sanusi doubled the advantage on the hour against the Division’s lowest scorers the points seemed safe, but ‘The Casuals’ pulled a goal back on eighty minutes through Bradley Wilson to set up an anxious last ten minutes for the Kent side.

Lewes and Kingstonian both won 2-0 away from home against Cheshunt and Brightlingsea Regent respectively. ‘The Rooks’ goals came from James Hammond and Leon Redwood in the ten minutes leading up to half time, although by then, Cheshunt, who signed no less than seven players on the eve of the game, had had Mo Camara sent off on the half-hour. Meanwhile at Brightlinsea Regent, a Dan Bennett brace, one in each half, gave ‘The Ks’ the points. Leatherhead also picked up three points with an away win, following a 1-0 victory at Bishop’s Stortford with the all-important goal coming from Travis Gregory in the 39th minute, whilst their Surrey neighbours, Merstham, saw their game against Bowers & Pitsea become a victim of the weather also due to a waterlogged pitch.

Midweek Fixtures
