DRAYCS' DOUBLE EARNS A POINT IN CONTENTIOUS ENCOUNTER

Ian Draycott (9) smashes in his first goal against Thurrock - which seemed timely, just seconds fromm the end of the opening half, But the visitors were back on terms within a minute of the restart after the break (PICS DON LINKIN)

FOLKESTONE INVICTA 2

THURROCK 2

A goal in each half from Ian Draycott earned Folkestone a point against mid-table Thurrock who at last turned up at the Fullicks Stadium on Tuesday.

This game should have taken place three weeks ago, but was postponed due to huge traffic problems at the Dartford Crossing and the visitors must have again encountered delays as they didn’t arrive till less than half an hour before kick-off.

The big strong visiting side seemed to be eager to make up for lost time in a first half that seemed to be played at breakneck pace and never looked seriously like producing a goal until Draycott fired home from a tight angle as Sam Hasler’s right wing corner was headed back across goal seconds before the half-time whistle.

But the home side’s lead was cancelled out only seconds after the resumption as the Rocks – or is it the Fleet – got back on terms when Michael Pindy skipped inside his marker to beat home keeper Tim Roberts from a tight angle on the left.

Offside

The least said about just how far the visiting attackers were offside the better as Lewwis Spemce put Mark Stimson’s side 2-1 ahead on 64 minutes.

Going for broke in the final 25 minutes. Invicta piled on the pressure and had two strong penalty appeals ignored by referee Michael Lowe before Draycott put them on terms with a great finish on 69 minutes.

The game could have gone either way in the final 20 minutes but it was probably fair that honours ended even and left Invicta feeling far from completely secure as they set out on the second half.

Thurrock got right in Folkestone's face from the start, and while Invicta now play at a fair old pace, it was all too frantic and desperately needed someone to put their foot on the ball and slow things down at times.
