Folkestone Invicta returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at home to Kingstonian at The Fullicks Stadium on Tuesday night.

Ian Draycott and substitute Joe Taylor (2) scored the goals as Neil Cugley’s side moved up to third place in the Bostik League Premier Division table, level on points with big-spending Billericay Town and one point behind new leaders Dulwich Hamlet who won 3-1 away to Billericay on the same night to leapfrog them at the top of the table.

Invicta are now the leading scorers in the Premier Division so far this season and have scored in their last 31 matches in all competitions.

The two clubs had drawn 1-1 at Kingstonian’s temporary home of Leatherhead ten days earlier. Kingstonian had not played since then but looked a better side here on this occasion.

Invicta had gone on to beat the weather and draw 1-1 at home to Harlow Town on Saturday. There was to be one change to the starting X1 as Sam Hasler came back into midfield in place of Matt Newman.

In the early exchanges, a sixth minute Nat Blanks shot deflected off central defender Rob Bartley for an Invicta corner.  At the other end, home goalkeeper Tim Roberts got down to save when Connor Hunte played the ball through to Taurean Roberts seven minutes later.

A Draycott ball sent Johan Ter Horst away down the right hand side on the quarter of an hour mark but the latter was fouled by Rob Tolfrey as he went round the goalkeeper and the Ks custodian received a yellow card.  Hasler’s subsequent free kick was then touched over the crossbar for a corner by Tolfrey.

A 27th minute Michael West free kick from the right was volleyed wide by Jason Williams in the middle, while Draycott curled a shot wide for Invicta three minutes later when Jerald Aboagye intercepted a Sean Francis ball and surged forward.

Kingstonian’s Roberts was booked for a 34th minute trip on Hasler.

Draycott then played the ball out to Ade Yusuff wide on the right a minute later and the ball across goal reached Kieron McCann on the left hand side who fired wide.

Invicta had penalty appeals turned down when Ter Horst appeared to have been tripped down the left hand side.

But the home side soon opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when the bal broke via Draycott for Ter Horst down the right hand side and the latter’s ball across goal was converted by DRAYCOTT from close range.

Draycott then hit a volley at Tolfrey when the ball broke for him in a central position a minute later.

Kingstonian had a chance to equalise in the 44th minute when Manolis Gogonas found West on the right whose cross picked out Williams in the middle but the striker couldn’t make good contact to capitalise from close range.

Invicta threatened again a minute later when the ball was played forward to Yusuff who got in behind Francis down the right hand side but fired into the side netting. Invicta’s leading goalscorer had his eyes on the prize and not on unmarked striking partner Ter Horst to his left.

Kingstonian made a change at half time as Chris Arthur came on for Roberts and Nic Ciardini moved up front from left back.

The visitors made a god start to the second half as the ball was played over to Hunte on the left hand side in the 47th minute but his shot was cleared off the line by Josh Vincent.

Invicta went straight up the other end and Ter Horst scooped his shot wide at the far post from the left hand side.

A 51st minute Gogonas throw in from the left hand side let Ciardini in but Roberts got across to save the subsequent shot.

Ter Horst then broke through the middle at the other end a minute later but was blocked and again got nothing for his efforts .

A 56th minute Blanks shot from the left was blocked by Bartley after a move involving Hasler and McCann.  But there was danger at the other end ten minutes later when West found Hunte but Invicta captain Callum Davies blocked the shot and Roberts’ saved Williams’ follow up.

Hasler played a great 67th minute ball out to Draycott on the left but Tolfrey saved and a good home passing move three minutes later culminated in Yusuff heading wide from virtually on the line after Aboagye had crossed from the right.

Kingstonian were still very much in it as West received the ball from Ciardini in the 72nd minute and chipped the ball through to Francis who had got forward but could not get the ball under control and it carried to goalkeeper Roberts.

Hasler shot wide across goal from the right hand side for Invicta in the 76th minute and Yusuff then took advantage of an under hit back pass from Francis a minute later and put the ball over goalkeeper Tolfrey but saw it come back off the crossbar.

Yusuff took a knock after a collision with Tolfrey and went off with a hamstring injury to give a chance to Taylor whose cameo appearance was to win him the sponsor’s man of the match award.

The change of personnel worked as it was TAYLOR who soon made it 2-0 when he slotted the ball into the net in the 79th minute after Davies had brought the ball out of defence and found Ter Horst and Draycott then played it through.

An 83rd minute cross from Ks substitute Andre McCollin on the right was headed wide by Arthur.

But Invicta struck again when TAYLOR latched onto a stoppage time Ciardini back pass and found the net again from close range after a wrestling match with goalkeeper Tolfrey.

There was still time for Williams to shot wide for the visitors from outside the penalty area but Invicta were to record a clean sheet which has been uncharestic in this goal-laden season.
