Folkestone Invicta came back from being a goal down to draw 1-1 for a second successive Saturday as they had to settle for a point at The Fullicks Stadium. The fixture was one of only three in their Bostik League to beat the weather – and the only one to be played on grass – as the snow wiped out nearly the entire non-league programme.Groundsman Gary Towse, his ground staff and nearly 50 volunteers turned up early on Saturday afternoon to clear the snow from the pitch which survived a 10am inspection.

Both goals came from each side’s number nine, prolific goalscorers who have helped their respective club’s to promotion in recent seasons.Alex Read gave Harlow the lead with a great 44th minute strike, but Ian Draycott equalised for Invicta in the 65th minute.Invicta kept the same starting X1 that had won its previous two home fixtures against Wingate & Finchley and leaders Billericay Town and drawn away to Kingstonian. The home side made a positive start as Johan Ter Horst cut in from the left hand side and his shot was saved at the near post for the game’s first corner after just 36 seconds.Jerald Aboagye then did well to play Draycott in down the right hand side in the fifth minute but goalkeeper David Hughes got fingertips on the ball across goal.Draycott then shot over the crossbar from outside the penalty area when Ter Horst played the ball back six minutes later.Invicta threatened again in the 32nd minute when Matt Newman played the ball forward and goalkeeper Hughes came out to deny Ter Horst after he had played a one-two with striking partner Ade Yusuff.A Ronnie Dolan corner from the right was then headed over by home captain Callum Davies two minutes later.  Dolan was celebrating his 26th birthday on Saturday.Invicta’s front three of Yusuff, Draycott and Ter Horst were all involved in the 36th minute when Yusuff shot just over the crossbar. At the other end, Sam Clarke touched the ball on to Robert Martin who hit a well-struck shot just wide of the post from outside the penalty area in the 41st minute.A good Invicta move a minute later resulted in goalkeeper Hughes touching a Ter Horst shot over the bar for a corner with his fingertips after passes between Yusuff and Aboagye and then Newman to Josh Vincent.Yusuff then cut in from the left hand side and had a low hot saved by goalkeeper Hughes. But it was the visitors that opened the scoring just before half time when READ received the ball from Martin and hit a great strike from outside the penalty area that flew into the roof of the net.

Harlow captain Ibrahima Sonko – ex Reading, Stoke City and Portsmouth amongst others – met a Christian Scales corner from the left on the hour mark but the ball took a touch and was cleared.Invicta needed a goal – they always score though don’t they? It came when Davies played the ball out of defence, Kieron McCann did well to take it down on the left hand side and DRAYCOTT was there to convert the cross.McCann played the ball back to Ter Horst three minutes later whose shot hit defender Audrius Laucys in the face.Invicta midfield playmaker Sam Hasler was back as a substitute after a three-match suspension but was to receive a 16th yellow card of the season for pulling an opponent’s shirt after six minutes of coming on.Harlow had a good chance to restore their lead in the 75th minute when a Martin cross was et by a Charles Edwards header but the ball went wide.Invicta then had a chance to go ahead when Dolan received the ball from Nat Blanks and played a great pass out to Draycott on the right hand side who took it on but shot into the side netting.Invicta’s Vincent was booked for an 87th minute foul on Edwards that raised temperatures, while Scales became the game’s fifth booing for a stoppage time foul on Yusuff.Harlow’s Clarke (34th minute foul on McCann) and Edwards (42nd minute) had earlier been cautioned in the first half.Victory would have taken Invicta up to second place in the table.
