FOLKESTONE INVICTA                0

CONCORD RANGERS                   1

Folkestone Invicta were beaten by the only goal of the game against Sammy Moore’s new-look Concord Rangers side on another sunny night at The Fullicks Stadium in Tuesday’s latest pre-season friendly.

The goal came in the 78th minute when a low shot struck the post before hitting the back of goalkeeper Tim Roberts and going into the net.

Concord Rangers’ new management team of Moore, Jack Midson and Darren Beale has strong local links to Folkestone and has put together a strong new squad ahead of their National League south season.

But it was Invicta that made a positive start as Alfie Paxman played Ian Draycott in within the opening 20 seconds and the latter chipped the ball over goalkeeper Sam Beasant but also over the bar.

Ade Yusuff then found Paxman down the left hand side of the box in the fifth minute but Tyrone Sterling blocked the subsequent shot.

For Concord, the ball broke firstly to a trialist forward and then former Dartford stalwart Ryan Hayes in the 11th minute but the latter lost control when under pressure from Nat Blanks.

Sammy Blackman went down under challenge from Kieron McCann on the left hand side of the box in the 29th minute but no penalty was awarded.

The visitors threatened in the 31st minute as former Dulwich Hamlet striker Nana Boakye-Yiadom put the ball through but Jerald Aboagye averted the danger. Blackman then won the ball in midfield and found Hayes who played Sean Clohessy in down the right hand side of the penalty area and the former Gillingham, Southend, Colchester, Leyton Orient and Leatherhead full back drilled a low shot wide of the far post across goal.

At the other end, a 42nd minute Paxman corner from the right came out to Josh Vincent whose volley from close to the edge of the box was narrowly wide of the target.

Clohessy found Hayes in the 53rd minute and the latter played a good cross in from the right hand side to find former Chelmsford player Danny Green who somehow put the ball wide at the far post.

The ball then came back from Boakye-Yiadom to Billy Knott in the box on the hour mark when the Concord Rangers captain shot at goalkeeper Roberts.

Knott was to go off in the 64th minute when he handed the captain’s armband to entre half Lee Minshull as the Essex club made numerous second half substitutions.

Invicta were close in the 69th minute when a corner from the right hand side fell to Vincent at the far post whose half volley was blocked on the line as the home side claimed a handball.

But Concord nearly broke the deadlock two minutes later when a Boakye-Yiadom shot from outside the penalty area came back off a post.

The decisive goal was soon to follow at what has proved to be a vulnerable period of the game for Invicta at the Cheriton End in their four home pre-season games so far, each against clubs from higher in the non-league pyramid than them.

Concord’s winner came in the 78th minute.  Gillingham and Dover Athletic had equalised in the 76th and 80th minutes respectively, whilst Maidstone United had scored their fourth goal at the same end in the 82nd minute.

Invicta responded as Draycott latched onto a headed back pass and lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper and onto the crossbar.

Home goalkeeper Roberts made the save of the night to keep out an acrobatic 86th minute shot from a Concord substitute central defender and the rebound was put wide from the left hand side.

Invicta youth teamer Jack Price had a late first senior run out of the summer in place of Jack Evans.
